About a month ago, I went to Pasadena's ART WALK to see what was happening. In one of the booth areas the Pasadena Society of Painters had a tent and while displaying examples of their members work was taking names for potential new members. Before you can be admitted to this group, you have to show examples of your current work. After a review of a panel of their members you will be accepted or not. I received an email a few days ago about their fall review and decided that I would take three of my paintings up, pay my $15 bucks and see if I was up to snuff (enough). Today was that day. We were told that we would know the outcome in a week or so. So, the waiting begins!
What made this such a difficult task though, was writing an artists statement. Ever done that? You ought to try it sometime. Luckily there are many tips online but the words have to be your very own. Its an experience. If you have never done it, give it a try. Try in explain in words the things you do with your hands, or brush or whatever you use to make some form of craft.
